Demo Reel

–Film Audio–

All the music is original, the sfx come from freesound.org, the mixing and mastering is original. The dialog remains the same as the original trailer (this was not a piece of cake as I don’t have the multi-tracks to that project).

Special thanks to: freesound.org, Legendary Films, Warner Brothers, and Jonathan Liebesman for directing an epic sequel.

Technical Notes:
Tracks: 32 Stereo = 64 Mono
Instruments: 16
Mixing Software: Cubase 5
Mastering: Izotope 5
Video Editing: Sony Vegas Pro 11

–Audio Restoration–

Flash audio players tend to leave audio artefacts and have never been the best thus this one is uploaded in HD. For the best experience listen to the original here and download the restored version in HD.

The pops/hiss in the original track were not of the standard kind created by a loose connection in a microphone cable but more of a digital artefact probably due to ASIO buffer settings. In the audio spectrum image below I outline the transients causing the problems.

Spectral Analysis

In-fact the audio was not clipping or jumping it just has an unpleasant transient sound. This can be confirmed by looking at the samples individually from the same time frame in the audio waveform image below.

Work Method:
1. Run through click removal algorithm
2. Remove remaining transient artefacts using spectral repair algorithm and fill in the transients with harmonic structure instead of noise.
3. Cut music to tempo and patch unrepairable sections
4. Final product

Final Remarks:
This is a worst case scenario for any audio engineer or sound designer. Schedule another audio recording session, it’s always the best decision. However deadlines need to be met and budgets get short, this is where audio restoration becomes useful.
